How Long Does a Building Permit Take in Vancouver, WA?
These timelines come from my own experience with Clark County and the City of Vancouver. They aren't guarantees, and the jurisdiction sets the actual review times.
The honest range
Expect about a month, but realistically a month to two months.
Where the time goes
- Initial intake review: in my experience, the city and Clark County usually take about two weeks.
- Each revision after that: about seven business days, in my experience.
- Corrections: one or two rounds can definitely delay things. Sometimes there's a missing detail or the engineering fix isn't right, so it goes back to the engineer. The engineer might be busy, which can take a couple of weeks, and then resubmitting restarts the correction process.
- Departments: some departments are on top of things and review quickly, but there's always one person or department lagging that holds up the whole process.
